AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE 2023-028 ESTABLISHING THE CITY OF GROVEPORT’S POLICE DEPARTMENT STRENGTH OF STAFF BY CREATING AN ADDITIONAL SERGEANT POSITION AND THE DECLARATION OF AN EMERGENCY

WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 3.01 (A)(4) of the Groveport City Charter, Council can establish or authorize the number of employees in the various offices, departments, divisions, bureaus, boards, and commissions of the Municipality.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GROVEPORT, FRANKLIN COUNTY, OHIO, A MAJORITY OF ITS MEMBERS CONCURRING:
Section 1: That the Administrator is hereby authorized to amend the strength of staff for the Police Department by creating an additional Sergeant position, thereby reducing the number of full-time Patrol positions from 18 to 17, and increasing the number of full-time Sergeants from 4 to 5. With the stated changes, and including the Chief, Captain, and 2 Lieutenants, the full-time officer strength of staff shall be 26.
Section 2: That this Ordinance is hereby deemed an emergency measure necessary for the preservation of the health, safety, and general welfare of the community to the extent this legislation must be enacted in a timely fashion to assure the continued effective/efficient operation of the Police Department; WHEREFORE, this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect after passage by Council and signature of the Mayor.
