A RESOLUTION CALLING UPON THE US DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE (DOC) TO RECOMMEND MEANINGFUL ACTION TO PROTECT AMERICA'S DOMESTIC STEEL AND ALUMINUM PRODUCERS UNDER SECTION 232 OF THE TRADE EXPANSION ACT OF 1962 AND THE DECLARATION OF AN EMERGENCY
Body
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) is reviewing whether imports of steel and aluminum are negatively impacting the United States’ economic and national security under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962; and,

WHEREAS, steel and aluminum are vital inputs for America’s defense and critical infrastructure and the health of these sectors must remain a strong and ready foundation for our economic and national security; and,

WHEREAS, the United States is becoming increasingly dependent on foreign governments such as China and Russia to supply steel and aluminum for our defense and critical infrastructure; and,

WHEREAS, such unfair foreign competition compromises America’s and, indeed, our community’s ability to produce steel and aluminum; and,

WHEREAS, our very own Staber Industries, a family owned and operated manufacturer of washers and dryers, supply to laundry facilities as well as medical and fire facilities. Further, it is the only American manufacturer to produce an energy efficient top loading washer. Accordingly, an innovative and important domestic manufacturer for the emergency services sector deserves protection from foreign competitors; and,

WHEREAS, Griffin Wheel of Amsted Rail in Groveport builds several key components to America's railway infrastructure. Truly, protecting this domestic manufacturer that helps connect other industries across the Nation is vital for our economic stability.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GROVEPORT, FRANKLIN COUNTY, OHIO, A MAJORITY OF ITS MEMBERS CONCURRING:
